You’ve already looked at the things that work in your business, two weeks ago.

This week we’ll ask you to look again and create 3 action plans to double down on the actions and strategies that bring you most of your results.

Let’s start with your MINDSET…

The Next Shiny Object Syndrome

Most entrepreneurs I know are always interested in looking at the next thing.

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is:

“As entrepreneurs, how do I control myself from moving onto the next shiny object?”

Entrepreneurs (myself included) always want to start new things. There’s a shiny object here, another one over there, and look at that one right there!

It’s the next, big opportunity that excites us. It’s just how we are wired.

However, from a strategic point of view, when you look at your business, you must learn to identify what has been working for you and double down on that.

How successful people became successful

When Warren Buffett and Bill Gates were asked, “What leads to your success?” they both had the same answer: focus.

So double down on what works for you. Look at your analytics. Look at your marketing strategies and tactics. List your clients from the top paying to the least. Look at what is providing the most impact.

Choose the STRATEGY you will use…

Here is the 5-step process you could follow in order to achieve that goal:

  1. Identify all the tactics/strategies/products/actions/people that produce most of the results in your business (or in your life);

  2. Divide those into 3 lists – easy to double down, requires some effort to double down, difficult to double down;

  3. Make a plan to multiply all the items on your “easy to double down” list;

  4. Make a plan to multiply all the items on your “requires some effort to double down” list;

  5. Make a plan to multiply all the items on your “difficult to double down” list;

PLAN your actions in your agenda…

Your next step is to physically plan this process in your agenda.

Remember – the whole purpose of the Working ON Your Business (WOMB) program is to get you in the habit of investing EVERY DAY 10-15 minutes working ON your business…

So, my suggestion, do NOT do all the exercises in one batch – but stick to the “schedule” I recommend… It will build the right habit, that would serve you for the rest of your business life.

Plan to invest 10-15 minutes EVERY DAY in the coming 5 days to follow the process above.

  • Day 1 – Make a complete list of all the tactics, strategies, products, actions, people, etc… that produce most of the results in your business.

    For example, when we realized that we get most of our results from “selling from the stage” in our 100-people events… we made a decision to bring 1,000 people into the room in order to multiply our results 10 times.

    Surprisingly though… with 10 times the people in the room – we multiplied our sales by more than 25 times… (the exponential power of doubling down).

    If you just started your business, and don’t know yet what works well – pick up another area in your life – finances, relationships, health… and do the process in that area.

  1. Day 5

    Difficult to double down: Live group trainings as I am limited in my time

    I don't feel like I want to double down on the live group trainings. Because in this stage of my life, they cost me too much time, effort and because of this a sort of stress.

    I do want to double down on my online trainings, possibly complemented with live Zoom sessions
    Therefor I need to double down on the marketing of my online academy. By setting up a new funnel and affiliate program.
    After that, I can send segmented emails to my list to offer old clients their level of training (level 1, 2 or 3) for repetition and maintenance or offer them the next level online training.

    Planning: starting to execute in week 2 of january, straight after the holidays.
    So I can offer this to the clients who bought in december 2022.(from Day 3 list)

  2. Day 4

    I have to create new opt-ins on my website. The current ones (still working) are ebooks that I’ve written in 2015 and 2016. So it’s time to create something new.

    After that, I need to set up a better email campaign after they opted-in.
    To prepare them, and to send them to my online trainings instead of my live trainings.

    Also need to set up a referral and/or affiliate program for the online trainings. That they can use and benefit from after they have bought their first online training from me.

    Planning: storting to execute in week 2 of january, straight after the holidays.
    So I can offer this to the clients who bought in december 2022.(from Day 3 list)

  3. Day 3

    Although I’ve mentioned no items that are easy do double down on Day 2, I can start offering online trainings to my mailing list. This is easy to implement and it fits my need of changing my business in to an online training business.

    This I will start Next month, to offer an online wine course as Christmas gift.

    1. Email marketing; just sending new course dates to my list used to led to sales and fully booked events (before covid).
    2. To grow my mailinglist, I have 3 opt-ins on my website
    3. Also I send targeted campaigns to my old students (so level 2 offer for level 1 students etc). This used to generate most of the sales.
    4. Live group trainings

  6. Day 3 – plan for easy to double down
    * Sales calls. Interviewing people. At least it will be when I finish my trainings:)

    Starting January 1.

    * the 10 things methode (idea machine) soo effective for everything.

    Schedule one every day at the same time. Beginning of each month: make a list of 30 things to use it for. Starting: TODAY

    * I need to do what gives me joy- if I don't enjoy it, it's really hard work and it's also not giving me lots of results. I think I'm doing good on this- and should be aware that I don't overdo it and forgetting about the results

    Do a fun check on my work – starting today

    * IF I post something: make it funny and with a picture, then it gets traction. interesting- never thought of that, and it's so much easier to do... I started with this the moment that I wrote it down

    Day 4: Requires effort to double down
    * publishing a book. It increased my expert position big time, and it gave me an entrance
    I am planning to write a book again starting from January. WHY? Because:
    1: It gives me the perfect entrance for my sales calls
    2: it grows my expert position
    3: I love writing so it gives me a lot of fun
    4: I am planning to write it together with others (If you are interested in writing a book and you didn’t yet, please send me a message!)

    Day 5: Hard to double down
    * Giving trainings and showing how effective (and fun!) online meetings/ trainings can be - tricky one! As long as I have the trainings that I am doing for someone else, this is perfect. As soon as I don't, it will be hard to double down. Unless I give them for free, maybe...
    Planned a session to start this, together with my sister- for DiSC. We believe every human being in every organization should be aware of different communication styles.
    * NICHING. Best decision so far. Not sure if I can do that more though...
    I could use some help with this one, if there is anything else I can do!

    • Giving presentations at several events and invite participants to connect (often this needs following-up, I often forget to do to my own disappointment).
    o Will plan to have and go to presentation of ask if they need contribution at the early announcement of if it comes year contact in advance
    o Will start doing this in January 2023 and keep a continuous schedule or event calendar.

  8. Day 5

    How can I double the items that are hard to double?
    - Double selling ebooks by bringing even more attention through social media, mails, affiliate, advertisements
    - My online program: more sales through a better funnel. Perhaps a new funnel. Or first a smaller offer and then an online program. Or first online program and then downgrade to a smaller program. By offering this after giving training courses and webinars.
    - More new customers, especially by being attractive on social media, new giveaways. Perhaps also through more collaboration with other companies. Perhaps through another website. More opt-ins. Delivering more value. Create and publish more videos on social media. Participate in a summit or organize it myself. Provide refresher courses for dieticians who have just graduated. (I will also give, have yet to reach these dieticians)
    - Send highest paid customers a personal message such as a voice message, a personal video, a mini free call, a free gift, ask what they want. They give discount for the following new products. They follow on social media.
    - Plan training on location. I want to do 2 x anyway in 2023: April and August.

  9. Day 5 – Make a plan how to multiply all the items on your “difficult to double down” list and schedule the actions in your agenda

    - Build a community. I think building a community takes a lot of time and you have to have something to offer. So you can build a community when you are (more) well-known. So it will be a challenge, but a nice one.
    - Make interesting Video's. So making video's is one thing, but making them interesting is the challenge. What subjects, show products of show myself while using the products. How long, what subjects, customers on film or not? Thinking about a format.
    - Make interesting Podcasts. Same goes for podcasts. Podcasts are very popular but there are so many podcasts so you need to find a format that is interesting enough to attract listeners.
    - Make an interesting magazine. Busy with that. (Re)writing articles. It will be a nice challenge to make that magazine. The magazines I made before (kind of trial) were much appreciated. Important is that you launch one every xxx time and stick to that. Not ad hoc but on a regular basis (twice a year, once every quarter). It is important for the recognizability.
    - Focus on specific targets every day. Appoint a day for every task. Really important. Focus. You get more things done when you focus. It is difficult for me, but really, really important. So on monday I will make an agenda for that week.

  10. Day 4 – Make a plan how to multiply all the items on your “requires some effort to double down” list and schedule the actions in your agenda
    1.Organize small events. Before Corona I regularly organized small events in the shop. Since the world is 'open' again I have not organized a single event. So I am going to look into organizing a X-mas event with all kinds of sustainable presents.
    2. Find and go to fairs. Before Corona I went to fairs regularly. It is nice to meet (new)customers and make good sales. Next year I will make a list of fairs that are relevant and interesting to me.
    3. Private shopping. Be more open to private shopping appointments. People like to have the shop for themselves. I also need to find a specific day, probably the Friday, when people can visit the store without an appointment, spontaneously.
    4. Webshop. It takes a lot of time to keep the shop up to date and make sure the new products are shown. The plan (still) is to find someone to help me with the day to day running. So far no luck.
    5. Find new concepts/strengthen popular concepts. One of the challenges of a conceptstore is to find concepts that work. It is also the most fullfilling. I am making a list with all the concepts, for how long I have had them and whether they are succesfull. At the moment my webshop is becoming pretty popular so I get a lot of requests of brands that want to lie in my shop. Be careful not to invest in too many concepts...

    1. Write more newsletters and stick to a regular day, once a week. At the moment it is an ad hoc decision
    2. Write more blogs and stick to a regular day, once a week. Regular basis is important for the recognizability

    4. + 5: the products blouses and pants work. I am already investing in the brands. Every season a little bit more
    6. I have a wonderful location and I am busy rearranging it so I can work there more comfortably. I have decluttered it for the most part
    7. Ads in local newspaper. Almost always work. It is a long time since I had my last ad. Especially when you have to hand in the ad in order to get a present of a discount or something. It works

    1. My time and material assignment for 32 hours a week with generates a 6 digit annual turnover
    2. My garden house on Airbnb with 97 occupancy rate which generate a 5 digit annual turnover
    3. The forest house of my daughter and I on Airbnb with a 5 digit annual turnover

    At the moment my Garden House clearly generate the biggest turnover with its
    97 % occupancy rate. And this is even without any additional promotion other than people searching on Airbnb.

    I have many additional products I can deliver whereby I can increase the price. Next to that I can start using Social Media actively which will ensure a 100% occupancy rate.

    Next to the Garden House I have 3 rooms in my house which I can advertise on Airbnb and social media which will generate a turnover from which I can richly live from. The products I generate for the Garden House can also be used for the additional rooms. Plus I will add three new groups to my target audience.
    In week 19 assignment 5 I made a list of products / services and actions that PRODUCE SOME RESULT in my business and which are worth optimizing.

    I don’t know if it is “what works” but it is all I am currently doing: interacting with the 33 ladies who enrolled in my free end of year activity for busy entrepreneurs.
    At the end I will offer them to join my mastermind groups for the trimester Jan-Feb-Mar. I will not be selling anything during December (ok maybe I will email my list proposing my book as Christmas present).

    I need to stop giving yoga classes- it’s costing me too much. Energy and focus.

    Difficult
    *The boxset generated clients, as a marketing tool/ strategy (buy 15: free workshop: sold a program) and expert position: we are asked to speak on events. The book needs to do the same thing, but multiplied. Makes me realize we need to set some things in motion for that.
    *This shifted from more mentoring/ coaching on the job and doing short projects to
    training and long term projects. Iam not sure what I think of this yet.
    *2 clients provide most of my income of which one is by an hourly rate
    I feel that this a vulnerable position and I rather don't work with an hourly rate- but that's what is the case right now. It also provides a steady income so I have the freedom to experiment and work on other parts without feeling too much pressure to succeed.

    The new book is released in February. It needs a proper launch. So we can get it in the right hands. Sales will start as soon as the manuscript is ready. The manuscript needs full focus.
    Then, maybe a new book every year. Combined with the insights from the workshop programme. And YouTube channel strategy.

    Also, I need to double down on: letting it happen. Work hard on the conditions, but not on the ripening itself.

    I’m sharing this because it confirms that videos do NOT need editing. They actually LIKE it when it’s not perfect! Makes it easier to continue making 1 video per week. I committed until the end of the year, but to make it work I will need to commit for a 6-month period.

  29. Day 5 Difficult to double down

    - New long term assignments (detachering/secondment)
    o create an extension of assignments from this, such as extra training courses and workshops
    During long term assignments I try to sell more things than only my hours. In the past I sold trainings and workshops at clients where I was a Scrum Master. In my current assignment that will be a bit difficult, because it’s a big corporate organization that has all kinds of agreements with other parties. But still I want to try give them a deal on the cardset and with that give them our free workshop. It will take time to get the trust to do that. So Q1 will be good.

    - (NEW) Create a product like the cardset that gives us expert position and good marketing. (for example the FAQ Youtube channel and by extension the Expert book)
    In the coming weeks I will experiment with short FAQ video on my YouTube channel. And in extension of that I want to create an Expert book before summer 2023. But this will take a lot of effort and I'll have to see if it's feasible.

  30. Day 4 plan for some effort

    - Creating an expert position (in my current assignment I was seen in no time as the expert for Product Owners);
    In the coming weeks I want to further expand my expert position within my current assignment. My direct colleague coaches now see me as an expert in the field of Product Owners. In the coming weeks I will extend this to the Product Owners themselves and the management. I will do this by organizing the first PO Guild and also by further spreading our card set.

    - Existing network of (ideal)clients. Whatsapp, call or email warm contacts with a good proposition;
    In mid-December I want to send our "warm network" of ideal customers an end-of-year message / Christmas card. Besides thanking them for the great cooperation this year, I also want to make them an offer for our free workshop "get rid of your frustrations; an implementation plan" (we are still looking for a better / catchier title).

    - Free workshop with irresistible offer at the end (sold a program for 6 month)
    We have to make sure that we can give our free workshops more. One of the ways is through the Christmas card, but we also have to draw attention to our front-end in other ways. Such as making the deal "buy 15 sets of cards and get a workshop for free" more often known on LinkedIn and via the "warm contacts".
    So announce the deal for free workshops again in December when communicating around the start of the PO Experience. In addition, from January onwards, we will start approaching people specifically.

    - Working with a team of experts (graphic designer, communication specialist and website builder)
    We will be delegating more work in the preparation and implementation of the PO Experience. This includes making and editing the videos and photos. In addition, our visuals will be updated by our graphic designer.
    We also want to develop one or two new websites, using a website builder (who is also familiar with Nisandeh's work).

    - And of course Bas…. 😉 (after a small dip in the cooperation, the WOMB has ensured that we are more and more on the same page and our cooperation has been greatly strengthened)
    In the coming months we will work together more intensively to make a great success of the PO Experience and all the workshops we will give. When we are working on the right things, Bas and I are a top team and can achieve great things.

    - (NEW) The WOMB program, it has paid off, but does require extra energy
    The last 5 weeks I also want to double down on the WOMB program. Do all the assignments and try to get the right rhythm and structures. Especially because there will be no follow-up by Nisandeh in January.

    - (NEW) Scrum Guild Amersfoort; Before Corona the Scrum Guild Amersfoort was a nice group of Agile enthusiast that will meet 4 times a year. I initiated this in 2018 and it grow to a group of 80 people. During Corona I didn’t have the energy to organize (online)meetings, but it’s a shame.
    This year I want to organize a meeting and immediately make a plan for 2023. I also want to further expand this "success" by establishing a Product Owner Guild at the end of Q1 2023 for POs in government and non-profit organizations.

  31. Day 5. Actions "difficult to double down”
    Sometimes we can add a new Sales channel, that is not easy. We have to deal with our software supplier, what they can offer to connect.
    But this week we almost finished the project for a new saleschannel. The project took many weeks, almost 2 months. And now we have the deal.
    The next channel is already start up.

    Our second is "new houses". That is by far the best to bring us more sales. Our old method is look for the houses and contact the owner by mail/phone, that takes a lot of time. Also to make the selection, because we only want high standard houses.
    We are working on that new project for about 2 months now.
    That project means: A new website-new mail automation-new free download (mailing list)- some basic pages about how it works. After that a adds campaign. This can not be done in a few weeks. But we scheduled it and we go on.
    When we can start with this I expect we can add new houses much faster than till now.

    We start now with a content calendar, that works (I hope). This is from a very good blogger.
    The basic is different than our schedule/calender/plan we use for 10 months. The results were not so good.
    It does not feel good, so we lose motivation. This calendar is based on a number of pillars. For each pillar you publish blogs/soc. Media/ small content/deep content. We filled up for a part and we start at 1-1-2023.

  35. Day 1. During the COVID period, my colleague and I cleaned up the entire company. We had already removed many malfunctioning parts. Last year we also started new projects.
    What we can scale up is more products, that is by far the best we can do. That brings us a higher turnover.

    Broadly speaking, my company's transformation looks like this after the end of this week.

    1. New opt in: provisionally replace current ebook by 10 most important points for development for executives with a link for a free coaching conversation: perform next week.
    2. Filling the gap between opt-in and coaching processes: deploy an idea generator, schedule provisionally.
    3. Filling the gap between coaching trajectories and VIP product: My research shows that the participants in a coaching trajectory still have a need for joint training. I will make a training design that I will work on every week in which the most important points from the coaching process are trained. As an extra bonus for the more exclusive coaching trajectories, with a TMA for executives as a bonus, especially for managers. With this I make a distinction between the coaching trajectories for the employees and the managers.
    4. VIP product: Where am I leading them: an in-depth weekend for the last step towards the ultimate form of leadership: I want to tackle this next year with Alexander.

    This will now become a new basis for Authenticiteit in beeld, whereby the coaching trajectories become the most important form of income, whereby I can combine the more targeted training with this by upgrading the coaching trajectories and can also offer it for open registrations. The more targeted training sessions and the in-depth weekends are the upgrade of my services

    • Subscription to book summaries (extend it to 2 years requires massive effort) --> will reconsider when I’m at the level of serving 1000’s instead of 100’s with this product
    • Goeroesoep (many development options possible, most of them time-consuming) --> plug it with my partners, start the marketing for the online course, and devise a better-considered strategy in the next 2 months

    - Providing parent evenings and develope training for theme on how to deal with your high gifted child
    For this I want to sit down with my co worker and discuss with here the options and maby we can organise an evening about testing and the gifted child.
    This is a long term goal so the first evening will not be this year any more but be in the end of januari.|

    - Prepare the new intern for what it takes to work with the children
    The new intern will start his training next weekend so I will sit down with him the day after and just ask what he needs from me and if he thinks he there will be a difficult area in this year for him.
    As he registerd his company by the KVK I will also take the task on me to make an invoice and a registration system and a bank account so he can focus on just working with the childeren and I will provide for the administration work.

    - Start working on my re-registration to make sure I can keep working.
    This weekend my husband is gone and I will use that time to start reading the necessities, requirements. All in all the re-registration will take at least 4 month and is depending on my interviews with the mentoren, they set the time table.

  43. WEEK 21 DAY 5 - plan dificult

    Also these are habits I do not need to plan, just be aware of. The one thing I can double down on is renting out apartments (which I already do) by learning to become a good airbnb host. It probably won’t be that difficult in itself; the difficult part is that the apartment is in the Alentejo, Portugal and I will depend on my friend for the day to day operations.

    - Concrete products such as the card set; The cardset gave us a lot of results, just in networking but also a new program. I want to double down on this by letting more people know more frequently it’s there (e.g. via LinkedIn and website). And also by translating it to English what will expand our target audience.

    - Eat the frog, less procrastinating and pick up actions quickly; I just have to do less procrastinating. I even put a sticky note on my window with the text “Eat the frog first”

    - (NEW) More focus and not too many different actions/tasks at hand; together with Bas we talked about our focus areas for the next couple of month.
