Let’s start with your MINDSET…

WHY Becoming and Expert?
In the video above I gave you MY top reasons why you should become an expert, and more than that – I shared with you how it’s connected with the last block of the program – working with Ideal Clients…

It doesn’t matter what products or services you offer, your prospects have lots of different options to choose from. 

Being able to differentiate yourself from your competitors, and position yourself as an expert in your marketplace is crucial to your success.

When you have authority, people will pay attention. When you are perceived as an expert in your industry, people will naturally want to work with you. They will seek you out. They will pay you more. And they will refer to you more.

Take some time to think, IF becoming a known expert (or THE expert) in your marketplace is a good strategy for you and for your business, and if yes – become very clear on the WHY… the WHAT, and… the HOW…

And if you decide to go for it, then…

Set your GOAL for this week…

Here’s a great goal for you:

OR…

I am going to become THE expert in my marketplace.

How’s that for a 5-day challenge?

Choose the STRATEGY you will use…

If you have never clearly AND explicitly defined and communicated your Expert Position Strategy, here is the 5-step process you should follow:

  1. Find your compelling WHY
    Why is it important for YOU to become a known authority/expert in your field/marketplace?
    Some ideas are in the video, but make your own list;

  2. Define WHAT do you want to become an expert in
    Remember the points I shared during the last Hot Seat session (serving people for decades vs/ fads, don’t build an expertise that will shoot you in the leg, serve the SAME clients for 10 years or more, the difference between celebrity business and a scalable expert business…);

  3. Commit to become a/the known expert in your field
    Becoming known as an expert is not the same as being an expert… You might be already an expert in your field – but to be KNOWN as one – takes time, effort, and other resources.
    Make sure you’re willing to commit to this process.

  4. Clarify/define/set your goals
    What would be your goal(s) that will represent for you becoming a/the known expert in your field (being invited to give lectures in professional conferences, publishing a bestselling book, winning a prize…)

  5. Design a plan to grow your expert position
    What will YOU do to achieve the goal(s) you’ve set for yourself in the previous step. 

And again, we’re going to use… the Idea Generator

Remember – your brain is an answering machine… so each day of the week, we’ll give it another question (see the Implementation part below).

PLAN your actions in your agenda…

Your next step is to physically plan this process in your agenda.

Plan to invest 10-15 minutes EVERY DAY in the coming 5 days to follow the process above.

AND… You will need to reserve 2-3 hours to actually setup your plan to grow your expert position.

Now it’s time to IMPLEMENT…

Take 10 minutes, right now, and…

  • Day 1 – come up with at least 10 answers for why do you want to become a/the known expert in your field and make a decision IF becoming that expert is what you want to go for;

  • Day 2 – come up with at least 10 specific ideas for WHAT you want to be known for as an expert and choose the one or two that are most important for you;

  • Day 3 – come up with a specific commitment for becoming a/the known expert/authority as you defined it yesterday.
    E.g. time investment, knowledge acquisition, skills practice, budget reserved or any other parameters you need to take into account to make it happen…;

  • Day 4 – come up with at least 10 ideas for specific, clear, achievable goals and choose your main goal and possibly 1-2 sub goals;

  • Day 5 – come up with as many ideas as you can how to actually achieve the goal(s) you’ve written yesterday and choose your preferred actions;

In your 2-3-hour Implementation Session – put it all together – design a clear, doable plan with WHO does WHAT, WHEN in order to achieve the goal(s) you wrote on Day 4.

    Day 5 – THIS IS HOW I INTEND TO ACHIEVE MY GOALS FROM YESTERDAY

    Due to a number of events over the last 3 weeks I have been inactive in contributing actively but not mentally. Thanks to very valuable sessions with my buddies many choices have been made. Where possible implementation has started. Where implementation is pending third party decision, actions have been set out.
    TWO important things that stands out is: SIMPLICITY AND FOCUS! and that goes for all areas in my life. Without simplicity focus gets challenged if not impossible.

    This means that in order to realize my new business and childhood contribution wish, I need to give this the priority it deserves. That means making choices to let other things go.

    HAPPY HOMES
    1) Write a book on HappyHomes by June 2023.
    - Write the book I would love to read myself using the plan of approach as a guideline for the content.
    - With my new insights having paused the process for 3 weeks, I will aim at a completion date in April 2023.
    2) Book is to be publised around Christmas 2023
    - I will reach out to my network informing on how to get my book published.
    - I will deliberately not ask Nisandeh as I believe this to be a NON Question. Meaning, finding the right publisher is something I can either look up in Google or ask my network.
    3) Create awareness around HappyHome on Social Media bij December 2022 Airbnb
    - I've contacted a social media expert who will support me through this process.
    - The week-end of 31st september we have our first sessions and make a plan of approach.
    - Create a business link on LinkedIn and Instagram to share my content
    - Start preparing the content based on all material gathered, news and postcasts shared.
    - Create a publishing calender
    - Automate all processes possible
    - make appointment for content creation weekends where content is created for 3 months ahead.

    4) Develop a masterclass on WHY Airbnb by January 2023 (HappyHomes)
    - The first session with my social media expert took place in August.
    - The list of content to be created has been made
    - 3 tiers have been identified
    - as has the irresistable offer
    - The week of October 15 -22 will be the week of recording

    5) Develop a training on how to Airbnb by April 2023
    - See my comments in point 4.

    6) Create a remarkable product for Airbnb by June 2023
    - The remarkable offer will be created based on the input from my target audience

    OPTIMIZEPEOPLE
    7) Find software developer who can develop my Skillcards by February 2023 (remarkable product)
    - Discuss the assignment with specific people in my network.
    - Discuss how to best protect the software created (what to think about if I wish to protect my code)
    - Discuss whether they can develop the skillcard and if not, who they can recommend.
    - Should this approach unexpectedly be in vain, I will set out an assignment on FIVERR
    - Based on the MOCKUP I will choose my partner.
    - Protect intellectual property
    - Protect name

    8) Skillcard automated and easy to use by May 2023
    - As the skillcard is part of my back office I'll investigate which platform to use for the best conversion: SHOPIFY or WORDPRESS with a PLUGIN
    - Have a webdesigner create my webside using the conversion checklist of Nisandeh and the idea generator challenge
    - Create an introduction film
    - Create a HOW TO Guide

    9) Create Masterclass WHY skill cards by June 2023
    - The masterclass / webinar ( I've heard that webinar has a higher conversion rate. Need to clearly understand why that is) will explain the urgency (based on newspaper articles and radio broadcasts) , problems (based on case stories), pain (based on casestories and experience of previous customers and own experience in my various roles) and the WHAT of the solution.
    - Create content (use the NEN-ISO 30401 Knowledge Management systems - requirements standards as field of reference)
    - Record masterclass
    - Publish on LinkedIn (maybe Linkedin Learning) and YouTube; Knowledge management platforms; Service Management platforms etc.

    10) Create training on HOW TO skill card by september 2023
    - Turn the content from the masterclass into to HOW TO knowledge clips
    - Reuse the content from the masterclass (LEGO blocks) as field of reference creating HOW TO use the skill card
    - Create a film of max 2 minutes on how to fill the skill card
    - create a film of max 2 minutes on how to use the skill card to mitigate risks for braindrain
    - create a film of max 2 minutes on how to use the skill card for targeted knowlegdge sharing
    - create a film of max 2 minutes on how to prioritize knowledge transfer based on the skill card
    - create many more products around the skill card.
    -- As a teaser for a bigger product, zoom uit to the bigger picture of how to use knowledge management to mitigate the risk of knowledge drain within the company based on my knowledge management framework

    11) Create Masterclass WHY transferring Implicit and transfer knowledge by November 2023

    THIS IS MY PREFERRED ACTION
    - Creating the HappyHomes makes my heart sing so I will start with putting my thought on paper creating the book I would love to read myself.
    Followed by the online business for Airbnb which indirectly is connected to the same business as my vision on HappyHomes is the center of the training. The products created will also share the same logo and signature.

    1. Inspired my the V.I.P. session and the HOT seat session of tonight - 15th of September, I realize that there are so many more remarkable products to be created and offered for a high price.

      The normal price I would charge for a manual Knowledge audit by means of a tailormade skillcard was euro 25,000. For three reasons I wish to automate this process: 1) It is a time consuming process for both me and my customers, 2) it creates dependencies (vendor lockin) which is not the manner in which I like to operate and 3) my customers wants real time data (time to market is short).
      Eventhough this will no longer be my core business, this might be an intersting business magnet at a high price to be used for the business development of HappyHomes (my contribution goal)

  2. Day 5

    How am I going to do it?
    1. Good plans in my google calendar
    2. Focus
    3. Using an app to keep me on track (teamwork? Asana?)
    4. Outwardly an agenda when I am going to give the webinars so that I can have a deadline, register and take it into account
    5. Talk to my buddies above
    6. Talking about it with my master mind group
    7. If someone wants an appointment at my scheduled activities, say I can't
    8. Regularly email about new topics
    9. Post a few times a week on social media about my expertise
    10. Continue what I'm doing 🙂

  3. Day 4

    My goals:
    1. Mainly money mindset. About pricing what my products and services are worth. Get more financial insight
    2. Give a new webinar within a month
    3. Planning to give the webinars in the coming months that I also gave this spring, now for new customers
    4. Finding and Finding a New VA
    5. Clarify my new program starting in 2023
    6. Acquiring more knowledge by following training yourself on a specific subject with regard to intestines and testing and nutrition
    7. Customers who are almost ideal customers, tag them so that I can see them more
    8. Pay more attention to my (almost) ideal customers
    9. Set a good example yourself with regard to my stomach and intestines and being fit and healthy
    10. Make better planning for learning about marketing and money mindset
    11. Planning social media
    12. Let me know on social media what I'm working on (learning something yourself, creating webinars, preparing half-year trajectory)

    My main goal is to give a new webinar! (About reintroduction)
    My sub-goals are further refining the six-month trajectory + working on my (intestinal) health myself

    I choose a specific commitment:
    - Time investment:
    I am going to invest 2 hours every week to learn about this specific topic (FODMAP, intestines, diets for IBS, etc)
    I will also invest 1 hour every week in marketing
    And I will also invest 1 hour every week in money mindset
    Because of what I have learned I will also teach others through blogs and webinars
    And what is also important, that I will update my book (published in 2017) and publish it again as a 2nd edition

    How do I mainly want to be known as an expert?

    2. As someone who can train dieticians well
    3. As someone who knows a lot about stomach pain in relation to food
    4. As someone who knows a lot about all the possible causes of IBS
    5. As someone who knows what nutritional adjustments can be made in IBS
    6. As someone who knows how to get rid of your annoying belly
    7. As someone who knows how to be fit and healthy, without stomach complaints
    8. As someone who knows a lot about all possible causes and treatments for IBS
    9. As someone who knows a lot about all diets in IBS
    10. As someone who has a lot of knowledge about food hypersensitivity

    I now choose number 1 and I also think number 7 is important

    Day 3 Day 3 – What is your specific commitment for becoming a/the known expert/authority
    I am going to write an article/blog every two weeks about a sustainable subject. I am also going to put the article/blog on my website, on LinkedIn, SocMed and in my newsletter. So people will know that I know what I am talking about.
    I am going to organize a lecture/information evening about a sustainable subject every four months. I am already reading and learning a lot about sustainability but there is always more to be learnt. I will try to read even more and take courses. Looking for specific courses..

  14. Week 10
    Day 2 Define WHAT do you want to become an expert in

    I want to become an expert in everything that has to do with sustainability. To be more specific: slow fashion. Secondly: slow food. Within the subject sustainable there are so many different subjects but I want to focus on fashion and food. I also have a travel blog on sustainable travelling. So I guess that is a third subject. But the three are intertwined...

  15. Week 10
    Day 1. Find your compelling WHY
    1. There is more and more attention for sustainability these days
    2. There is a lot of greenwashing
    3. The big shops try positioning themselves as being sustainable
    4. It is necessary for people to know about sustainability

    find JVs to work with together
    * make an IO for them
    * Make list of JVs that I would love to work with
    * Approach them - and when they say no, have the guts to ask how I could make it interesting enough so they WILL say yes

    every week go for one day on my bike and visit companies to hand out the book in person
    * do research and make a list of companies that I want to visit
    * call the secretary and make appointments with the RIGHT person to hand over the book and give them options on the specific dates that I have
    * send them something upfront to warm them up
    * create an elevator pitch that I will deliver together with my book - and find for each of them what is their challenge

    * Talk with Janneke (VIDM) for help
    * make the call with the reporter
    * when she agrees, go to Vattenfall and have a call with their media department to get the CEO to receive the book
    * use this to talk with others too

  17. Day 4 – come up with at least 10 ideas for specific, clear, achievable goals and choose your main goal and possibly 1-2 sub goals;

    Main goals:
    1. Book. Book, book, book. To be honest I would prefer to not have more ideas at the moment because it will get me excited and I will take my eyes off the book haha.
    2. Give webinars on my topic for free
    3. Get publicity (thursday I have a call with a reporter for AD)
    4. Start publishing one exercise every week (and have people register to a flow of 10 different ones maybe?) (@Marcel Dassen if I do that I will share this workflow with you) - after that put on the newsletter
    5. Post on LinkedIn every week
    6. Start writing the next book on hybrid working (and find companies to come look internally at hybrid meetings and help them to get them better - free offer)
    7. Work on a specific offer together with Elske on how to use hybrid working to leave less footprint as a company
    8. Start a YouTube channel where I can share cool exercises and tips on creating an effective team in a hybrid environment (see? I would LOVE that, but my book should be my first priority now:))
    9. Find associates and JV partners to work with together
    10. Every training that I give should be better than the one before. (this is quite a biggie for me since I am scared of reflecting... (I know I should...)

    I am already writing a book, it’s almost done. I believe that this book will skyrocket my expert position. I am committing to spend at least one day EVERY WEEK from now on to promote my book. I prefer doing this face to face, but I have many ideas on how to do this in a different way too (the ones that came up in the first week)

    Next to that: I am already reading all the books in DUTCH that are there over the topic, and I will keep on reading all the english material also. I will also keep on training myself in becoming better, I will register for the next NVC training too and keep on practicing.

    Because I want to give away as many books as possible, I will need to print a lot of books and give them away. I put away at first 1000 euro to print my own books, which will be around... 200 books, I think.

    Day 5 Achive the goals
    The one and only action to achive anny of the goals is to acutaly set the date for the foiorst meeting with my collega`s and I did it by creating an app group and we came up with 9 sept, in the morning as beeing the starting moment.
    I will then tell theme what I want, how and in wicvh time frame and then see what they come up with in better of different ideas by letting theme use the 10 idea system.

    - start filming/photographing all new projects from now on.
    - make my website ready for social media integration + blog-posting/knowledge sharing within 3 months

    When I look at the questions from yesterday and today, I think I'm messing up specific, clear, achievable goals with preferred actions. I allready made actions yesterday.
    Tomorrow I'll work out the schedule of the PersoonlijkeKracht-training. It will be finished in four months (or less).

    Finishing the training of PersoonlijkeKracht in next four months; by following the training schedule;

    * exercise kaval every day, at least 2 x 15 minutes;
    * exercising embouchure at least 2 x 15 minutes every day, in connection to sfincter-exercises;

    So summary I can do training one hour morning and one hour evening and integrate all in it.

      Schedule is a 10-step-plan. It says: 'This 10-step plan gives you the structure to go through and complete the PK-Training in an effective way.       Can be done in 10 to 12 full days, I choose to do it on saturdays and finish around end november.

    To live my potential, not that little boy's anymore.

    2. From the knowledge that Nisandeh told in the meeting that you really only want a virgin as a target group. And to experience for yourself how stubborn bicycle mechanics they (experts) are they know it all so well and better but they work very hard, earn very little and only complain. They don't hear me when I have solutions. Do I have to be an expert myself?
    Or how do you connect with an expert?

    3. Expert or specialist is still seen as the one who has experience and has learned for it, that's why you want to be a customer with them. You would rather go to the specialist or expert for pain in the back than the doctor or let them help you by the assistant.

    4. Expert position gives me the stage to share my experience. To take the podium.

    5. Especially by the virgin target group customers you are really seen and they are amazed and they want to know everything about you and they remain loyal to you.

    GROW YOUR EXPERT POSITION
    HOW TO ACHIEVE MY COMMITMENT GOALS:

    Main Goal

    1. Break down my specific commitment into clear and strategic tasks and start working on a detailed schedule: Executable Plan de campagne. How? By:
    * Use the Idea Generator for each commitment and choose the ideas that will bring me closer to my goal
    * Take time to contemplate if the choices are really strategic (on a regular basis)
    * Collect the chosen tasks and organize them by category (knowledge acquisition, skill practice, implementation, etc.)
    * Prioritize the tasks and plan them in the agenda (within my 15 work week hour commitment)
    * Build a routine that enables me to implement the tasks with 100% focus
    * Set ONE goal per week (maximum three), and ONE purpose for each hour of work
    * Establish a fixed moment (weekly) to set goals and evaluate results
    * Report my progress to my accountability bodies on a weekly basis
    * Come up with some progress levels (gamification) by establishing exciting/meaningful milestones and establish upfront how I am going to celebrate/ reward myself

    * Inventarize all areas in life that impact the hardest pain (and therefore parenthood) and analyze how they relate to/influence each other
    * Research the existing concepts out there and play around with different word combinations until finally finding the right name for my vision
    * Blog about it and encourage constant engagement/feedback from ideal clients

  35. Day 3 of 5 - Commitment

    Next year I will spend at least 1-2 days a week further increasing my expert status in the field of leadership public organizations. I will be writing two new books next year on leadership and collaboration of complex administrative public organizations (book 1) and on empowered municipal organizations and how to guide them to recovery (book 2). This makes it even more clear that I know how this kind of organization should function and be managed. And what this means for (the professional growth of) the directors who are responsible for this.

    By building an Academy, I am the founder and owner, helping leadership talent grow from (conscious virgin) to the successful government manager, and then to the level of conscious public leader or leadership.

  36. Day 3 My specific commitment

    For me it was a difficult assigment to describe my commitment. On the one hand to clarify what that expert position entails and on the other hand to clarify the commitment I give.
    I have tried to reach my commitment based on the descriptions of Maru and Max (Thanks fort he inspiration!)

    I want to commit to become a know expert in the field of Scrum Product Owners. By helping Product Owners with coaching, training, tools and events.

    Time investment:
    - 8 hrs a week (besides a 24 hrs a week role as Scrum Master coaching PO’s and teams)
    - Get a weekly routine in order for working ON my business

    Knowledge Acquisition:
    - Get clear what my expert position entails
    - Find out what the real question is from my clients
    - Actively participate in blogs or posts on social media
    - Read all kinds of relevant literature
    - Get my PSPO II certification
    - Perform interviews with Agile enthusiasts

    What do I want to be known for as an expert?

    1. The expert in the field of leadership public organizations: he knows how this kind of organization should function and be led and what this means for (the professional growth of) the directors who are responsible for it.
    2. The expert on how the municipality REALLY works?
    3. The expert who helps leadership talent grow from (conscious virgin) to the successful government manager, and then to the level of conscious public leader or leadership.
    4. The expert who always gives and helps.
    5. The expert who only delivers a lot of added value.
    6. The expert who understands that integrity and professionalism are key in an official organization!
    7. The expert who moves government organizations and the people who work in them.
    8. The expert who connects talent development, leadership development and organizational development in a logical and beautiful way.
    9. The expert who gives the G.E.H.E.I.M. of (the profession of) Citymanagers knows (book was published in 2021 and sold almost 1,000 copies.

    PS. Last Monday I 'sold' my new (not yet existing) 6 month program for conscious public leadership to the recruitment agency, which means that I will have between 20-40 participants (ideal clients, read directors) in my program next year.
    And I also immediately sold an existing 6-month program De Successful Government Manager, so that 20-60 participants per year will also join it. A few years later, these participants want to take the next step, which I can then guide in the next program.

  41. Day 5 26-08-22

    – come up with as many ideas as possible to actually achieve the goals you wrote yesterday and choose your favorite actions;

    Goal 1 inventory where I am now and I will immediately implement this here:

    1. Research is ongoing and should be completed by the end of next week.
    2. There is only one competitor who offers from specialist to manager. What he offers I will process in what I will offer for free and surpass it.
    3. Create a questionnaire for specialists who have just become managers and post it on my website. This allows them to indicate what their ideal training should look like to become a better manager. I'm going to start thinking about the questions today (already done!).
    4. Offer the first trial training for free as a reward.
    5. Place call on LinkedIn and post on my profile. My existing customers ask to share this.
    6. Develop the pilot training and this should be ready by the end of September.
    7. Offer the trial training at the beginning of October and choose a location where I will give this training.
    8. Turn the trial training into a full training and offer it as a free front end. Deadline for this is the end of November.
    9. This front end appears with ActiveCampaign as a floating window on my homepage.
    10. Clarify the follow-up product based on the experiences of the first training. I make an inventory of this with the evaluation forms where they can indicate which follow-up suits them best. The options for a follow-up are either an intense group training/course or a number of personal coaching sessions, for example five or a coaching trajectory that I already offer.

    This is goal 1 and gives me a clear direction for the first month. I am curious how this process will develop.

    In the meantime, I can get to know the people who fill out the questionnaire better by inviting them to a podcast or a blog. My conclusion is that I will have my hands full with this in the near future. Moreover, I also find this quite exciting.

    My insights from this week:

    * Redo the About page of my website: tell more about my journey and my progress, to earn the right to be considered an expert
    * Generate lots of content:
    - Blog weekly with podcast version
    - Define a strategic content plan = blog/podcast, newsletter, IG posts, IG stories to support my plan to grow my expert position
